Ohio State blues: Ohio governor announces high school football will be permitted this fall
Following an announcement from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, the only major football program that’s not scheduled to play this fall in the Buckeye State is Ohio State football.
The Cincinnati Bengals of the NFL aren’t the only ones pushing forward inside the state of Ohio as the Cincinnati Bearcats are also currently scheduled to compete on the gridiron this fall and will be joined by high school football, according to the state’s governor.
Here is the statement issued by Governor DeWine on Tuesday:
“We will be issuing an order that all sports may go forward this fall. It will be available online at coronavirus.ohio.gov soon. Additionally, there will be no spectators other than family members or individuals very close to the student athletes.”
While fan attendance may be limited for high school football in Ohio, that’s better than not having football at all.
Once again, the Big Ten is made to look foolish after the league pulled the cord early on the fall football season — leading to coaches, administrators, players and parents of Big Ten athletes to call out the leadership of the Power 5 conference.
Thanks to the Big Ten, the most popular football program in the state of Ohio will be sitting out the season while the vast majority of teams in the state are currently set to see the field this fall.
