Oklahoma holds off Texas in Big 12 title game to keep Playoff hopes alive

When a game ends with more than 60 points, it’s tough to call it a defensive battle, but that’s what Saturday’s Big 12 Championship Game felt like between No. 5 Oklahoma and No. 14 Texas.
Considering the two teams combined for 93 points in a 48-45 Texas win earlier this year, though, a game in the 60s was low-scoring. At the end of the day, the Sooners outlasted the Longhorns thanks to a long fourth-quarter drive and a big defensive play, picking up a big 39-27 victory over their big-time rivals.
That key play by the Sooners’ defense came just when Texas had seized momentum following a beautiful forced fumble on a long pass play by the Sooners. On the ensuing possession, QB Sam Ehlinger was absolutely demolished on this corner blitz, which resulted in a safety:

Oklahoma sealed the victory with a beautiful throw and catch between Heisman-hopeful QB Kyler Murray and TE Grant Calcaterra, as you can see below:

This is bad news for Alabama and Georgia, as the No. 1 Crimson Tide and No. 4 Bulldogs may be out of the final four with a loss thanks to this win by the Sooners. This is also bad news for No. 6 Ohio State, as the Buckeyes may not be able to jump into the top four even with a win in the Big Ten title game Saturday night.
