Oklahoma has put together quite a group for its 2027 recruiting class. On Sunday, not long after gaining a pledge from a Missouri wide receiver, the Sooners got the nod from an offensive lineman just weeks after they extended an offer to him.
Jackson Lawler, from Amarillo, Texas, announced his pledge on social media, becoming the 24th verbal commitment of the 2027 cycle for Brent Venables and his staff. He joins a class that is ranked No. 3 in the country by 247Sports.
Lawler is the sixth offensive lineman to commit to the Sooners’ 2027 class. That list is led by in-state product Kaeden Penny, the nation’s No. 2 offensive tackle and No. 25 overall player. Oklahoma also has a pledge from Fort Gibson (Okla.)’s Cooper Hackett, the No. 17 OT in the country.
That makes two commitments for Oklahoma on the day. Sunday morning saw Malahn Green, a wide receiver from St. Louis, announce his own pledge.
The strength of the Sooners’ class shouldn’t be surprising. Venables was one of the top recruiters in college football at Clemson. Now, after leading Oklahoma to its first College Football Playoff appearance since 2015, he’ll continue to take advantage of the program’s newfound momentum.
