The Ole Miss Rebels gave Matt Luke the interim coach position after Hugh Freeze resigned this spring, but will be in the market for a new head coach this offseason.

With many other schools already having made moves to get rid of their coaches, the Rebels will have plenty of competition on the open market.

On Wednesday, though, Ole Miss AD Ross Bjork said the Rebels are “ready to strike” when it comes to making their next hire (via The Oxford Eagle):

โ€œNow itโ€™s all heating up and the marketโ€™s shifting,โ€ Bjork said. โ€œNow itโ€™s just a matter of what programs are going to open up. You study all of that and you anticipate some of those things, and you have to be ready to strike and be ready to go as the season winds down.โ€

Bjork said Luke will have a fair chance to earn the job on a full-time basis based on his performance down the stretch:

โ€œAbsolutely heโ€™s in the mix. He has to be in the mix,โ€ Bjork said. โ€œI think heโ€™s done a good job holding everything together in a difficult circumstance.โ€

With potential NCAA punishments looming over the program, it is unlikely the Rebels will be able to land a top-tier coach, but that doesn’t mean Ole Miss will be picking through the scraps, either.

Whatever happens in Oxford will be interesting to see, but it will largely depend on the upcoming ruling from the NCAA.
