Ole Miss’s Kewan Lacy, Florida’s Vernell Brown III and Tennessee’s Faizon Brandon get injury updates
Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy, Florida wide receiver Vernell Brown III and Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon were all listed as questionable on the latest SEC injury report released on Friday night.
The Rebels, Gators and Volunteers are now in danger of missing some offensive star power and fire power in their respective Week 6 matchups.
Brown was forced to sit out last week’s loss at Mizzou, and Florida missed him mightily, as the Gators managed just 17 points in a blowout loss. The sophomore wideout is dealing with a knee injury, and UF head coach Jon Sumrall said during the SEC Teleconference on Wednesday that Brown ran in practice early in the week.
But Brown apparently hadn’t recovered quickly enough by Friday night to get anything better than a questionable designation for Saturday’s home matchup against South Carolina (12:45 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
Meanwhile, Lacy was thought to be coming back on Saturday at Vanderbilt (3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) after missing Ole Miss‘s blowout loss at Florida in Week 4 with a shoulder injury.
But apparently that return is far from set in stone, with Friday night’s questionable designation meaning Lacy has basically a 50-50 chance to play on Saturday in Nashville.
Brandon’s situation is a little more complicated, since he was benched in last week’s victory over Auburn and subsequently lost his starting job to George MacIntyre in the leadup to Saturday’s game at Arkansas (4:15 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
One week before the Auburn game, Brandon suffered an apparent right shoulder injury in a Week 4 home loss to No. 1 Texas. With MacIntyre reportedly set to take over as the starter in place of Brandon but with Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel being noncommittal on the QB situation, Brandon’s questionable status on Friday night throws another layer of mystery into Tennessee’s quarterback puzzle.
With Lacy’s status in question for Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt, Ole Miss’s road assignment might be a little tougher than expected. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the Rebels’ chances to steal a win in Nashville with their star running back possibly not being able to play:
