Pat McAfee says the headgear pick tradition ended on College GameDay with Lee Corso’s retirement.
On Monday evening, McAfee responded to a social media comment accusing him of taking over Corso’s famous headgear pick tradition. Corso retired from GameDay with a final appearance on last season’s Week 1 show from Columbus for the Ohio State-Texas game.
McAfee made it clear that he won’t be doing headgear picks.
With all due respect with Mr Gamblino.. I have no idea what youโre talking about.

While McAfee has not put on the headgear, his high-energy, elaborate selections closed out the picks segment for the remainder of the 2025 season. One of McAfee’s more memorable showcase game picks had him plunging off a high dive at the University of Miami when the Hurricanes hosted rival Florida.
One would expect McAfee to continue the tradition of making the final pick every Saturday. The first GameDay stop of the 2026 season is LSU vs. Clemson, Lane Kiffin‘s first game coaching the Bayou Bengals.
