Paul Finebaum compares Eagles’ Super Bowl win to Alabama’s CFP victory

The Philadelphia Eagles pulled off an impressive victory in Super Bowl LII on Sunday night, with backup QB Nick Foles earning the game’s MVP honor.
Foles took over for injured starter Carson Wentz late in the regular season, when Wentz went down with a torn ACL.
Naturally, Foles’s inspiring performance in the NFL’s biggest game drew comparisons to Alabama backup QB Tua Tagovailoa, who came on in the second half of this year’s National Championship Game to lead the Crimson Tide to a come-from-behind victory over Georgia.
On WJOX on Monday, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum compared the Alabama victory to the Eagles’ Super Bowl win (via 247Sports):
โI think weโve seen this, Jay (Baker, former Alabama quarterback), and you understand this better than I do or a lot of the people listening, but quarterbacks work in tandem,โ Finebaum said on WJOX-FM. โThe goal is to start, of course, but it is most important to get the team ready. And I think thatโs what you have to do. You see so many other instances, especially in pro football, where players are vocal more than they are in college or any other sport.
“It is remarkable. And for young people listening, itโs what are sports are really supposed to be about.โ
While the Crimson Tide now have a legitimate quarterback controversy, the Eagles’ situation isn’t quite as drastic, as Wentz is still one of the brightest young quarterbacks in the league.
However, Foles is going to play somewhere next year, and while it might not be with the Eagles, he’ll always be a hero in Philly.
