Paul Finebaum, Heather Dinich name which team had most ‘damaging’ loss in Week 7
Eight teams in the Week 7 AP poll lost on Saturday. Two of those squads fell to unranked foes, but just one of them is in the running for “most damaging loss” of the week, according to ESPN’s Heather Dinich and Paul Finebaum.
Dinich and Finebaum discussed the litany of ranked losses on SportsCenter. Both settled on an SEC school for the distinction, but went in different directions with their choice.
“There are no wrong answers here,” Finebaum said. “But my answer would be Texas… I just can’t get over what Texas is doing. It seemed like about eight days ago, they were No. 1 in the country. And they’re not even in the universe anymore.”
While the Longhorns (4-2, 1-2 SEC) seem to be worse off due to four straight oncoming matchups with ranked opponents, Dinich argued their early-season work has them in a better position than their Crimson-clad conference mate.
“I would say it’s Alabama, because the College Football Playoff selection committee pays attention to how teams lose. And when you look at the Tide… four turnovers, ten penalties. This was a bad performance,” Dinich said. “As poorly as [Texas] played… Texas still has two of the best wins in the country, against Ohio State and Tennessee.”
Alabama (5-2, 3-2 SEC) looks to right the ship in Week 8 vs. Texas A&M (3:30 p.m. E.T., ABC). Texas welcomes Ole Miss to Austin on Saturday night (7:30 p.m. E.T., ABC).
