Paul Finebaum questions whether Notre Dame will reach CFP
Paul Finebaum believes that BYU is heading to the College Football Playoff, even with so much season still to go.
The real question for the ESPN college football analyst is about the team that BYU took down last Saturday night in Provo. During his appearance on First Take on Monday morning, Finebaum wondered aloud about Notre Dame‘s chances to be in the 12-team field in December after its 28-24 loss to the Cougars in Week 7.
With the Fighting Irish knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten after a 6-0 start, Notre Dame now faces the prospect of not even being in the Playoff. The Irish still have No. 1 Miami left on their schedule, with the Hurricanes coming to South Bend on Nov. 7.
Notre Dame has a bye this week before playing Navy in Week 9, and Finebaum believes there are serious question marks about the Fighting Irish ultimately making the Playoff.

“I know BYU is going to be in the Playoff. The real question is, is Notre Dame, and I know that sounds crazy because a couple days ago we were talking about Notre Dame as a possible national championship contender. But if you look at the schedule, they have to deal with Miami, the No. 1 team in the country, in a couple weeks at home,” Finebaum said.
“If they drop that Miami game, I don’t think they’re going back to the Playoff, which is just monster news for everybody in college football.”
Notre Dame has little margin for error now in its quest to make the Playoff. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the Fighting Irish’s chances to brush off the BYU loss and still make the 12-team field in December:
