Paul Finebaum reveals he convinced SEC Nation to go to Mizzou-Kansas: ‘You have no earthly idea how great this rivalry is’

The latest addition to the Border War is happening between Kansas and Missouri this weekend. These teams have a massive rivalry that dates back to the Civil War between the 2 states, and that hatred has translated into their athletic programs. They have not played since 2011, but they are finally renewing the rivalry after all these years.

The renewal of the rivalry also got Paul Finebaum to convince SEC Nation to take the show on the road to Columbia instead of the only conference game happening this week, Ole Miss-Kentucky. Finebaum reasoned that he got a front-row seat to see how crazy the rivalry was.

The Tiger Kickoff Show had Finebaum on, and he explained all this, specifically saying, “You have no earthly idea how great this rivalry is…”

The rivalry is also even with no school holding a giant lead. Missouri leads the all-time series, 56-55-9. The fact that these two schools have not met since 2011 is a travesty and is why they are trying to revive it.

Rivalries and traditions make college football great, and because of that historical aspect, there is real hatred between these two schools. Kansas and Missouri players are not up to date on the passion of the rivalry, and both schools are trying to educate their players on that hatred and where it all stems from before kickoff on Saturday.

At least on Kansas’ side, each player was 3 years younger than when KU last beat Missouri in 2008. As a result, Lance Leipold gave the team a history lesson this week ahead of Saturday’s meeting. The head coach said the team reviewed the entire history of the rivalry, from Bleeding Kansas and the Civil War to the first game on November 29, 1900, and beyond.

This rivalry needs more life breathed into it, and hopefully, SEC Nation visiting helps give it the energy it needs.
