Pete Golding downplays comments claiming FBI swept for bugs after Lane Kiffin’s departure

Not everything is as exciting as some may make it out to be.
On Monday, Grove Collective NIL director Walker Jones claimed that Ole Miss had the FBI come in and “sweep for bugs” following Lane Kiffin’s departure for LSU. That’s obviously a pretty wild story if you take Jones’ word for it, but Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding downplayed the comment on Monday afternoon.
Golding told reporters that there was no “hiring process” to have an FBI team come out and sweep the entire facility for bugs, but he didn’t exactly deny someone from the FBI being in the facility during Ole Miss’s Playoff run, either. Here’s his quote, or you can hear it from Golding in full below:
“Any bowl game or Playoff system obviously you’re going to up security,” Golding said. “I’m not sure that there was a hiring process of, ‘here we go with the FBI,’ I think we probably have a current player whose dad just so happens to work for the FBI that lives in town… there was no measure. Any time you get in that Playoff system and you had guys from this building go to other places, you want to make sure it’s secure for your players.
Ah, college football.
