The Auburn Tigers have seen their fair share of dual-threat quarterbacks come through The Plains. All of them have tried, and failed, to replicate Cam Newton’s dominant 2010 campaign that ended with a national championship triumph.

To be fair to those non-Newton passers, coming anywhere close to his air would be quite the accomplishment. Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding isn’t putting current Tiger quarterback Byrum Brown in that tier, but does believe Brown’s style of play is similar to Newton’s. He also thinks head coach Alex Golesh does a good job at giving his passers an opportunity to succeed, like Josh Heupel does at Tennessee.

“I think [the Tigers] use the horizontal spacing of the field…the tempo they play with. A lot of similar concepts,” Golding said. “The run game has similarities. It’s a high-profile offense based on explosive plays.”

Brown has thrown for 1,365 yards and ran for 613 yards on 97 carries (removing sacks and lost sack yardage, per ESPN) this year. Auburn relied heavily on him to beat Georgia in Week 7, giving him 26 carries and 26 pass attempts against the Bulldogs. The Tigers will need him to replicate his efforts from Athens in Oxford if they want to win on Saturday afternoon (12:45 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
