Pete Golding has Ole Miss in position to make a second straight College Football Playoff appearance. A win against Georgia on Saturday would be the biggest step yet in that direction.
Golding, of course, is in his current role as head coach thanks to Lane Kiffin‘s departure for LSU. But his relationship with Ole Miss extends back to 2023, when he was hired as Kiffin’s defensive coordinator after five seasons at Alabama.
After four years in Oxford, the city has felt like home to Golding and his family.
“To be honest with you, I feel like this is the first place I’ve ever been and the first job that I’ve ever had that I knew I was where I was supposed to be, and it’s not based on the job,” Pete Golding said on SEC Nation. “Like when we made the decision to come over here for my three kids, like I knew I’m gonna be in Oxford.”
If the time comes when Ole Miss needs to make a change — whenever that is — Golding said he’d be at peace with the decision.
“At the end of the day, I’m gonna work my ass off to do everything we can for our players and for our fans and for our alumni,” he said. “But at the end of the day, they want to go a different direction. I’m good with that.”
