Pete Golding shares hilarious reaction to Sam Leavitt showing up on LSU’s injury report

Pete Golding threw some humor into a situation that’s kind of serious.
But the Ole Miss head coach just couldn’t resist during his Friday afternoon appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Golding was speaking about the controversy that’s gripped the Ole Miss-LSU showdown on Saturday night (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC), a collision of SEC powers that was already dripping with intrigue with Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin returning to the place he left late last season.
Now though, there is something else to chew on for college football fans as kickoff approaches between 7th-ranked LSU and 8th-ranked Ole Miss. The SEC opener for both 2-0 teams now might not include Tigers star quarterback Sam Leavitt, who was listed as doubtful on Wednesday night’s injury report before being upgraded to questionable on LSU’s latest availability report that was revealed on Thursday night.
The Leavitt drama has created quite the stir, with On3’s Pete Nakos reporting that he was dealing with a sore throwing shoulder. According to a report by CBS Sports insider Matt Zenitz, Leavitt participated in LSU’s walkthrough practice session on Thursday, which just made him being listed as doubtful a day earlier that much more amusing to Golding.
“I got the text before the report went out from Lane, ‘hey, our quarterback is out.’ I said, ‘yeah buddy, I’ll bet he is. I’ve been around here a lot of Wednesdays with you, man, for three and a half years,'” said Pete Golding, as McAfee and his co-hosts got a good laugh out of it, too, with the show coming from Oxford on Friday in the leadup to Saturday night’s game. “I think our first one we had 42 guys on our first ever SEC injury report on a Wednesday.
“I was like, ‘yeah man, see you Saturday,'” Golding added.
