Former Kentucky F PJ Washington was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, going to the Charlotte Hornets.
However, an injury that dates back to his time with the Wildcats is causing his debut for his new team to be delayed a couple of months.
Per the Hornets PR Twitter page, Washington won’t participate in the NBA Summer League to give his foot more time to heal:
.@hornets Head Coach James Borrego told media that PJ Washington (sore left foot) is doubtful to play in NBA Summer League. Team is being cautious with the injury that he suffered in college. Washington is expected to be ready for Training Camp.

Obviously, that’s disappointing for the incoming rookie, as Summer League is a great way to get your feet wet at the NBA level. However, the good news is that he’s expected to be ready for Charlotte’s training camp.
When Washington does take the court, though, it’ll be interesting to see how the former Kentucky star fares.
