Rece Davis still doesn’t have Texas as his No. 1 team right now, even after the Longhorns pulled off that Saturday night stunner in Austin over Ohio State.

Yes, Texas stormed back from down 23-3 in the 4th quarter and outlasted the Buckeyes in a signature comeback victory for Arch Manning. And, yes, Texas is in fact the No. 1 team in the land right now in both the AP and Coaches polls.

But the host of ESPN’s College GameDay went on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday afternoon and told the audience who he really thinks is the No. 1 team in the country through Week 2.

“I still have Notre Dame ranked No. 1. I’d put Texas No. 2 because I wanted to honor the (Ohio State) victory,” Davis said. “But if you watched the entire game, and I realize it’s a far greater opponent than anybody that Notre Dame has faced so far. But kind of watching the whole game, it was really hard to get to the place where I think that this is the best team in the country. They certainly have the best win and the best moment. But I think they have the potential to be right there. But I don’t have them on top right now, just because the entire game they didn’t always look like No. 1.”

Davis doesn’t have Texas as his No. 1 team right now, but they are No. 1 in both polls as the Longhorns chase a national championship in 2026. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about Texas’s chances to win it all in January:
