Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia made believers out of many in his final 2 seasons with the Commodores, leading Vandy to college football relevance and earning himself a trip to New York as a 2025 Heisman Trophy finalist.
But at least 1 Heisman voter, ESPNโs Rece Davis, now regrets his decision to cast a vote for Pavia after the quarterbackโs actions after last Saturdayโs vote was announced and Pavia dropped an explicit message on his social media accounts reacting to the decision.
โI regretted the vote because after Paviaโs behavior in the aftermath, I was like โMan, I am glad he didnโt win,โโ Davis said. โThatโs not the way you should feel about a player that is as great as a player that Pavia is on the field. I am delighted that (Indiana quarterback Fernando) Mendoza won, because he will represent the Heisman in the way I think it should be represented.โ
Davis went on to say that he understands the Vanderbilt quarterback’s disappointment in finishing second in the Heisman voting to Mendoza, but that learning from the disappointment is a part of life.
โI get it. Gotta suck it up sometimes. Every now and then in life, you gottta wear a fastball in the ribs. Too bad. And he couldnโt do it,โ Davis said. โIt made me regret the fact that I had him atop my Heisman ballot. The right guy won. And Iโm glad he won.โ
