When Cuonzo Martin resigned at Cal and took the Mizzou coaching job, his former assistant, Wyking Jones, took over as the Bears’ head coach.

However, the last two years have been tumultuous ones under Jones, as Cal has bottomed out in the Pac-12, finishing dead last in the conference each of the past two seasons after finishing with 21 wins in Martin’s final year with the team.

On Sunday, the Golden Bears relieved Jones of his duties, but according to reporter John Canzano, it only happened after players told the Cal AD that Jones should be fired:

Jones finished his two-year Cal tenure with an abysmal 16-47 record, going only 5-31 in Pac-12 play.

Per Canzano, Cal is expected to target famous alum Jason Kidd to fill the head coaching role next season.
