Oklahoma will reportedly enter the 2020 season without its leading returning rusher. According to Jason Kersey of The Athletic, Kennedy Brooks will opt out of the season.
Brooks was entering his junior year coming off of back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. In 2018, he logged 119 carries for 1,056 yards and 12 touchdowns. Last season, Brooks posted totals of 1,011 yards and 6 touchdowns on 155 carries. Jalen Hurts led the 2019 Sooners in rushing with 1,298 yards and 20 TDs on 233 rushes.
Rhamondre Stevenson was No. 3 in rushing for Oklahoma last season. He recorded just 64 carries for 515 yards and 6 TDs. Trey Sermon was No. 4 the rusher in that productive Sooners backfield. This offseason, he announced he would transfer from OU to Ohio State. Sermon certainly wasn’t expecting Brooks to opt out while OSU and other Big Ten schools would not play this fall due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Oklahoma is currently set to open its 2020 season against Missouri State on Sept. 12.
