The Baylor Bears went 12-2 and won the Sugar Bowl in 2021. Since then, the Bears have posted just one winning record and appeared in two bowl games. Baylor is 4-3 this year, but its loss to Kansas — which ended a 14-game winning streak against the Jayhawks — spelled the end of Dave Aranda’s tenure in Waco.

Now that Aranda is out of the picture, Bear fans are beginning to make a head coach wish list. Where exactly former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Robert Griffin III would slot on that sheet is unclear, but the man himself wants the job. He professed it during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show.

“Yes. What you want me to say, Dan? Come on,” Griffin laughed when Patrick gauged his interest. “I would 100% be interested.”

While Griffin is intrigued at the possibility, he knows he may not be his alma mater’s top choice. He spoke in support of multiple other candidates, including a “dark horse” from the Big Ten.

“Outside of myself, I would advocate for Spencer Danielson, the head coach at Boise State. I think he’s a top-notch guy… and knows how to win,” Griffin said. “I also think Jeff Traylor at UTSA is a great option. A dark horse would be Lincoln Riley from USC.”

Riley’s name has been associated with the Bears’ open post repeatedly since Aranda’s departure. He’d be quite the coup for Baylor heading into 2027-28. For now, though, interim head coach Joe Klanderman will lead Baylor against UCF on Friday, Oct. 30 (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
