Ryan Silverfield has fared really well against current SEC head coaches in the past. The new Arkansas head coach made sure to bring that up during his time at the podium during SEC Media Days on Thursday.
Silverfield, who used to coach at Memphis, is 5-1 against current SEC coaches. While at Memphis Silverfield beat Alex Golesh 3 times and Jon Sumrall twice, with his only loss coming to Eli Drinkwitz and Missouri.
To put the cherry on top, Silverfield noted “I won’t throw the podium at you, so I appreciate that,” to the reporter who gave him his 5-1 stat. Of course, this is a nod to Jon Sumrall’s joke that ruffled some feathers on Wednesday.
In case you’re wondering, Silverfield is 2-2 against the SEC as a whole. While at Memphis Silverfield’s teams beat Arkansas and Mississippi state while also losing to Mississippi State and Missouri. Of course, the Tigers pulled off an improbable comeback to beat Sam Pittman’s Razorbacks 31-30 last season, which set the tone for the rest of Arkansas’ season.
Now, though, it’s time for Arkansas to start winning. That’s the plan, at least. Silverfield and the Razorbacks begin a new era on September 5 against North Alabama.
