Sam Mathews speaks to special Texas A&M honor: ‘I am living the dream’
Sam Mathews has been given one of the highest honors for Texas A&M football.
Mathews is the Aggies 12th Man, which is an award given to a specific player who shows the most determination in practice and on the field.
On Monday, Mathews spoke on the honor, which was given to him last Tuesday.
He said head coach Jimbo Fisher had a team meeting explaining the history of the 12th Man before announcing Mathews would receive the award.
“I am living the dream right now,” Mathews said.
Mathews has certainly earned his way to where he is now.
After spending a season playing at a junior college, he found his way to Texas A&M in 2021. He had an outstanding year on special teams in 2022 and was awarded the Special Teams MVP and the Strength & Conditioning Specialist Award.
Now, Mathews has earned another honor and will look to carry on the tradition of the award.
