Sam Pittman has been around long enough to see some great players across college football.

“Jameson Williams was friggin’ great last year,” the Arkansas coach told Ryan McGee and Marty Smith. “So was Bryce Young, so was Will Anderson. Can you use 3 on the same team?”

But then Pittman went back several more years was South Carolina legend Jadeveon Clowney, who played for the Gamecocks from 2011-13, the glory days of the Steve Spurrier era. Pittman put Clowney in a class by himself.

“Jadeveon Clowney was the best college defensive end in maybe ever in college, he was unstoppable,” Pittman said.

Before Clowney went No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft, he was a key figure on the South Carolina defense. Clowney was right in the middle of that 11-2 run and started 23-of-36 games for the Gamecocks. He finished 2nd in school history with 47 tackles for a loss and 3rd with 24 sacks. He holds the school record with 9 forced fumbles. He was a 2-time All-American and 2-time All-SEC pick. He was the 3rd Gamecock to earn 1st-team All-American honors in 2 seasons.
