Samuel M’Pemba is leaving Georgia to find more playing time with another SEC school, with the edge rusher committing to Texas A&M on Monday morning.
The former 5-star recruit was one of the highlights of Georgia’s 2023 class, but he never quite found his niche in Kirby Smart’s defense. He has spent the past 2 seasons as a reserve piece on the Bulldogs’ defense, never finding his path to stardom like Georgia had hoped. In those 2 seasons, M’Pemba had just 6 tackles and played in 15 total games.
M’Pemba will have 3 years of eligibility remaining starting next fall in College Station. He is originally from the St. Louis area and played his high school football for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. M’Pemba was the No. 44 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle, so he arrived in Athens with big-time potential that just wasn’t realized.
In total, 7 Georgia players have entered the transfer portal so far and some have found new homes, including M’Pemba. Defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett is headed to USC, inside linebacker Troy Bowles will be transferring to Michigan and safety Justyn Rhett will transfer to Nebraska. Wide receiver Michael Jackson and safety Jake Pope have also entered the transfer portal.
Georgia has not yet landed any players out of the transfer portal as it prepares to face Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals on New Year’s Day.
