Scott Van Pelt includes Notre Dame-Arkansas in ‘Winners’ segment
The Arkansas Razorbacks have, quite literally, fumbled away their last 2 games. Last week’s loss to Memphis, where Arkansas had the ball at the Tigers’ 9-yard line needing only a field goal to win, was incredibly painful. But the Hogs have had enough time to lick their wounds. Now, they need to focus on this Saturday’s home game versus Notre Dame.
Notre Dame, following losses to Miami and Texas A&M, snuck back into the AP poll after dispatching Purdue 56-30 in Week 3. Freshman quarterback CJ Carr threw just 12 passes against the Boilermakers, but completed 10 of them for 223 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Carr’s improvement, and Taylen Green’s excellence so far, have analysts across the country — including ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt — expecting a shootout in Fayetteville. The betting markets and ESPN’s Football Power Index expect Arkansas to lose, but he doesn’t care. On his Thursday night “Winners” segment, he picked the Razorbacks to cover the 4.5-point spread (via BetMGM).
“Taylen Green [is] my favorite quarterback to watch in America,” Van Pelt said. “I believe Arkansas is ready to run in a track meet with Notre Dame.”
Some Arkansas fans would surely appreciate the Razorbacks covering that number, but getting an outright win is much more optimal. Kickoff between Notre Dame and Arkansas is 12:00 p.m. E.T. on Saturday (ABC).
