This weekend’s slate of SEC action features a pivotal Week 8 showdown between the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers and the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide under the lights of Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Both squads enter the contest with a single loss on the season, and will be looking to take that next step towards a potential berth in the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff with a win.
There’s also a potential to make some money on the game, betting-wise, for those who are into taking a little risk, with the current spread set at 7.5 points in Alabama’s favor.
ESPN analyst and SportsCenter host Scott Van Pelt discussed the game on his weekly ‘Winners’ segment Thursday night and made his pick against the spread in the heavyweight SEC tilt.
“Give me Alabama laying a big number on Tennessee,” Van Pelt exclaimed as he picked the Tide to roll over the Vols and the spread on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa.
This matchup has been decided by a touchdown or less in 2 of the past 3 years, but the last time the game was played at Alabama in 2023, the Tide knocked off the Volunteers 34-20.
If that home-field advantage shows up again for Kalen DeBoer‘s squad, then Van Pelt’s pick could end up looking like a brilliant play by the time the final whistle blows at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
