Scott Van Pelt gave his take on a unique showdown in Knoxville on Saturday afternoon, as Arkansas plays its first game after firing Sam Pittman against No. 12 Tennessee, which is coming off a bye.

The reeling Razorbacks are coming off a bye, too, and they’ll be under the leadership (again) of interim head coach Bobby Petrino. Pittman was fired the day after Arkansas’s last game 2 weeks ago, when the Hogs were blown out by Notre Dame. That was the last straw for Pittman, and now they turn to Petrino, who was the head coach in Fayetteville from 2008-11.

Arkansas has lost 3 in a row after a 2-0 start, while 4-1 Tennessee continues to try to build momentum after that heartbreaking overtime loss to Georgia back in Week 3. The Volunteers are 1-1 in the SEC going into Saturday’s 21st all-time meeting between the programs, with the first matchup coming way back in 1907. Tennessee won that one, 14-2, and the Volunteers lead the all-time series, 13-7.

However, the Hogs have owned the Vols lately, winning the past 4 meetings, including a 19-14 upset last October in Fayetteville. The Arkansas fans stormed the field after that win, and they’ll hope for another shocker on Saturday at Neyland Stadium. For Van Pelt, he believes the Razorbacks can at least keep it interesting in Knoxville in the 4:15 p.m. ET kickoff on SEC Network. He’s taking the 11.5 points with Arkansas.

“Tennessee can give up some points now. Arkansas can score ’em. You add that combo together, plus the plus sign of double digits. We’re on the Hogs,” Van Pelt said.
