Sean McVay has weighed in on Stetson Bennett’s future with the Los Angeles Rams.

Bennett’s status with the Rams has been uncertain since September when he was put on the Rams’ non-football injury list. At the time, McVay wouldn’t give any details about the reason for the move with Bennett, who led Georgia to 2 national championships before Los Angeles drafted him in the 4th round.

Asked this week about Bennett’s updated status, McVay said, “You know, I don’t know that. I think that’s a conversation for another time. I think he’s doing better, but I wouldn’t be in a position to answer that accurately right now.”

Earlier, Bennett in the preseason won the job as Matthew Stafford’s backup, but he missed the Rams’ season-opening victory at Seattle with a right shoulder injury. Bennett in his preseason debut was 17-of-29 passing for 191 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Rams drafting Bennett was fairly unique give the organization’s history. He was the first quarterback drafted by the Rams during McVay’s 7 seasons at the helm, and McVay shared that he wanted to help Bennett become an effective NFL player. The Rams hadn’t drafted a quarterback since choosing Jared Goff first overall in 2016.
