SEC lands 12 first-round picks in NFL.com’s first post-Super Bowl mock draft

SEC football was well represented on Sunday night in the Super Bowl, as the Philadelphia Eagles had SEC players making plays all over the field in their 40-22 win against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts played at Alabama and Oklahoma, while DeVonta Smith, A.J. Brown and Nolan Smith were among former SEC players contributing in a big way. For the Chiefs, rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy represented the conference with 8 catches for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns.

On Monday, NFL.com came out with a post-Super Bowl mock draft, and there was a staggering 12 guys from the conference in the first 32 picks.

While the conference has a lot of players in the draft, there actually isn’t an SEC player going in this mock until pick No. 8, with Ole Miss DT Walter Nolan going to the Carolina Panthers. Offensive line play in the SEC was very good this year, as there are 4 projected offensive lineman going from picks 10-19 in the first round. Maybe the biggest surprise in the mock draft was the New York Jets making a trade with the Chiefs to draft quarterback Jaxson Dart with the No. 31 pick in the draft.

There is still a lot that needs to happen before the 2025 NFL Draft, but with the 2024 NFL season officially done, it is time to look at the future.
