The SEC has tied the Big Ten with 15 players on the 2023 Nagurski Watch List, which leads the country.

Georgia and Alabama each have 3 players named to the list.

Georgia defensive end Mykel Williams and safety Malaki Starks joined linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson for the Bulldogs. For Alabama, it’s linebacker Dallas Turner, cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry and safety Malachi Moore joining him on the list.

LSU boasts linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. and Mekhi Wingo of LSU, while Missouri has cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine and linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper, and Auburn cornerback D.J. James round out the 9 schools represented from the SEC. Kentucky defensive tackle Deone Walker is another honoree.

South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori was named, as well as Arkansas cornerback Dwight McGlothern and Mississippi State linebacker Nathaniel Watson.

The Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce finalists for the 2023 trophy on Nov. 15 and the winner will be unveiled Dec. 4 at the Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet in Charlotte, N.C.

Players may be added or removed from the watch list during the course of the season. As in previous years, the FWAA will announce a National Defensive Player of the Week each Tuesday this season. If not already on the watch list, each week’s honored player will be added at that time.
