SEC overrated? Conference takes a beating on social media amid Week 1 struggles
The SEC is not having a good day.
Although things started off well earlier this week for the SEC as Mizzou and Auburn picked up nonconference victories, the tone has shifted on Saturday. Texas managed to score just 7 points in a deflating loss to Ohio State in the early window.
Things have only unraveled from there, as Alabama appears to be on the cusp of losing to Florida State despite entering the game as 14-point favorites. The Crimson Tide have struggled mightily on both sides of the ball against the Noles, who won just 1 FBS games last season.
This is not the first time Alabama has struggled as a big favorite under Kalen DeBoer, either. The Crimson Tide lost 3 games last season as a double-digit favorite, so this would be more of the same for DeBoer if Alabama can’t pull off a massive comeback.
For now, social media is taking the opportunity to rip the SEC for being overrated in 2025. If those fans are right, the SEC might be looking at only a small batch of College Football Playoff berths again this upcoming postseason. The pressure is on programs like LSU and South Carolina to win key nonconference games this weekend.
