The Ole Miss Rebels entered Week 11 with the nation’s best scoring defense, and they posted their first shutout of 2014 in Saturday’s win over Presbyterian. More significantly, the Rebels defense forced a turnover in a 33rd straight game, extending the longest active streak in the FBS. Ole Miss also won its 11th straight non-conference game on Saturday.
Here are some other streaks from around the SEC that were extended or ended this weekend:
Alabama: The Crimson Tide won its fourth straight game against LSU in Saturday night’s overtime win in Death Valley. Alabama also scored in its 178th straight game and scored in the first half of its 98th straight game, marking the longest active streak in the nation.
Auburn: The Tigers’ 14-game home win streak was snapped in Saturday’s loss to Texas A&M. The streak dated back to the 2012 season. On the bright side, Auburn also sold out Jordan-Hare Stadium for an eighth consecutive home game in Week 11 and Cameron Artis-Payne went over the 1,000-yard mark in Saturday’s loss, marking the sixth straight season Auburn has had a 1,000-yard rusher.
Florida: The Gators scored at least 24 unanswered points for a second straight week in their 34-10 win over Vanderbilt. Florida scored 24 straight points against the Commodores one week after scoring 31 straight against Georgia in Week 10. Florida also beat Vanderbilt in Nashville for the 12th straight time dating back to 1990.
Georgia: Freshman tailback Nick Chubb rushed for at least 100 yards for a fourth straight game since replacing Todd Gurley in the starting lineup. Chubb rushed for 170 yards and a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ win over Kentucky.
Mississippi State: The Bulldogs extended the SEC’s longest active winning streak to 12 games dating back to the end of last season. They’re now one win shy of the school record for consecutive wins (13). Quarterback Dak Prescott scored a touchdown in his 11th straight game, linebacker Benardrick McKinney recorded a tackle for a 35th straight game and defensive end Preston Smith recorded a tackle for loss for an eighth straight game.
Vanderbilt: The Commodores lost their seventh game of the season on Saturday, officially snapping their streak of three straight seasons of bowl eligibility. They also snapped their 10-game winning streak in the month of November.
Lastly, one impressive streak involves two SEC teams and two future Hall of Fame coaches. Since Nick Saban returned to the SEC to coach Alabama in 2007, his Tide and Les Miles’ LSU Tigers have both been ranked in the top 25 for all nine of their showdowns. Saban is 6-3 in those meetings.
