Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks have had some tough losses the last couple of years, but very few rival the 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky on Saturday night. The Gamecocks raced out to a 17-0 lead, but for the second time this year, blew a double-digit lead at home to an SEC opponent.
Beamer has been on the hot seat since the start of the season, and the calls for him to be relieved of his duties have never been higher than they are now. After the game, Beamer was asked about his future as the coach at South Carolina and if he believes the administration still thinks he is the guy for the job.
“I don’t know anything other than what they have told me,” Beamer said. “They have been super supportive and have been all along, and I wish we could have put a better result on the field tonight.”
With the loss on Saturday night, Beamer falls to 35-33 as the head coach of the Gamecocks. In the 2024 season, they finished 9-4 and had a legitimate claim to making it in the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff. However, since then, the Gamecocks are 6-11 and now 1-10 in their last 11 SEC games.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier in Week 6, as the Gamecocks travel to Gainesville to take on a Florida team that is coming off a 45-17 blowout loss at the hands of Missouri.
