Shane Beamer blasts ‘conspiracy theories’ from South Carolina’s 2022 win over Tennessee

Shane Beamer and South Carolina got a huge win on Saturday, as the Gamecocks pulled off an upset over Tennessee, 27-24, on a last-second 48-yard field goal by Malik Orsan.
While this win is a huge talking point in Columbia, Beamer found himself having to talk about “conspiracy theories” about the Gamecocks’ win over the Volunteers in 2022, when they scored 63 points.
In that win in 2022, the Volunteers entered that game as the No. 5 team in the country, but the Gamecocks blew them out, 63-38. Spencer Rattler was the quarterback that day, throwing for 438 yards and six touchdowns. Tennessee fans after that game claimed that South Carolina players wore arm bands for the first time that season, with fans thinking that meant they had some of Tennessee’s play calls.
“It’s disrespectful to our players and coaches that scored 63 points against them that night,” Beamer said. “I don’t know what conspiracy theories they will come up with this year. “Maybe light from the State Fair.”

Even though he talked about the 2022 season, the real talking point is how the team has stayed together when it looked like the season was falling apart only a couple of weeks ago.
Just two games ago, Beamer was on the hot seat after the Gamecocks blew another double-digit lead in a 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky.
However, the team has responded in a big way. In their last game in Week 6, South Carolina went and dominated Florida in the Swamp. Then, to follow that up against a Tennessee team coming off a win over Alabama shows that Beamer still has the team focused on the 2026 season.
