Shane Beamer is clear on his vision for South Carolina: A team that challenges for College Football Playoff berths year in and year out.

“Our mindset and expectation every year is that’s the standard, to win enough games to be in the mix for the Playoff,” Beamer said on Tuesday. “Going into last season, I believed that when I said that, and believe that now.”

On its face, it’s a bold statement. The Gamecocks are coming off a 4-8 season, and he’s on one of the hottest seats in the country. After a step back in 2025, the hope is that LaNorris Sellers finds his groove again โ€” and more โ€” under new offensive coordinator Kendal Briles. Even if he does, there are plenty of teams in the SEC that are in better positions right now.

Back in November, Shane Beamer vowed that the Gamecocks would be a Playoff team in 2026. He’s not walking those comments back.

“I think every coach that coaches here, every player that plays here, they don’t come here to go 6-6 and just get bowl eligible,” Beamer said. “There’s higher expectations here. There’s not a ceiling on this program. We’re trying to blow the lid off the ceiling, if you will.”

South Carolina opens the season against Kent State on Saturday.
