Shane Beamer is headed back to familiar territory on Saturday as South Carolina visits Oklahoma. It’s Beamer’s first game in Norman since serving as the Sooners’ associate head coach under Lincoln Riley from 2018 to 2020.
As the Gamecocks prepare to face the Sooners after an upset win over Tennessee, they’ll be without two players, one on either side of the ball.
One of those players is Quay’sheed Scott. The defensive back hasn’t played since suffering an upper-body injury against Kentucky on Oct. 3. During his “Carolina Calls” radio show on Thursday, Beamer stated that Scott wouldn’t be available against the Sooners, per The Post and Courier’s David Cloninger. But he will return against Texas A&M on Nov. 7 should tests come back negative, Beamer added.
Running back Jawarn Howell is also out due to a shoulder injury. Howell has 18 carries for 104 yards this season. His most recent action was against Florida, where he took four carries for six yards.
Lastly, the Gamecocks will miss offensive lineman Dayne Arnett, who is sick.
After a heartbreaking overtime loss to Kentucky, the Gamecocks have won their last two games. They defeated Florida on the road 38-19 before returning home for a 27-24 win over Tennessee.
