The South Carolina Gamecocks finished No. 15 in the 2024 College Football Playoff poll. Their program appeared to be on the verge of taking a leap and truly competing for a national championship. Instead of one step forward, though, it has taken two steps back. As a result, jobs are on the line in Columbia.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, backup passer Cutter Woods took more than his usual share of reps with South Carolina’s first-team offense in practice this week. The move positions Woods to see the field vs. the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday if LaNorris Sellers continues to struggle.

Sellers, who was once viewed as a high-end NFL Draft pick, has just six touchdown passes this season. His four interceptions are tied with Marcel Reed and John Mateer for third-most in the SEC.

The Gamecock offense put up big numbers against Kent State and Towson, then started SEC play strong with 13 first-quarter points vs. Mississippi State. But over its last seven quarters, the unit has scored just 39 points. South Carolina didn’t find the end zone last week against Alabama until the Crimson Tide led them 35-3.

A loss on Saturday could spell the end of Shane Beamer‘s Gamecocks tenure. Kentucky and South Carolina kick off at 4:15 p.m. E.T. (SEC Network).
