Florida’s long-awaited firing of head coach Billy Napier had been building to a point for weeks, and fans and media personalities alike were ready to share their thoughts when the news became official Sunday.
From the Gator faithful celebrating the coaching change to other fan bases hoping they hear the same news, here were some of the best social media reactions:
Barstool Sports made sure to point out that Napier’s struggles with opening beverage containers were an early sign of his downfall.
Florida State usually wants nothing to do with its arch rivals, but Seminole fans wouldn’t be too displeased to hear about Mike Norvell’s firing as well.
Barstool SEC pointed out that there is a discrepancy when it comes to how Napier and another offensive-minded former Sun Belt coach handled their time in the league.
On a positive note, some Florida fan accounts did want to point out the poetry of Napier’s first and final games…while On3’s Brett McMurphy made sure to highlight the glass-half-empty approach.
As for Napier’s future, some believe that a team-up with another embattled SEC personality back at his former school would be a good fit.
Of course, Napier may not need to look for a new job so soon given the hefty buyout he’ll be taking home.
