College football’s Football Championship Subdivision is often a source of transfer portal talent, and South Carolina dipped into the FBS ranks Sunday for an offensive lineman – reportedly landing Northern Arizona transfer Seth Smith.
On3Sports reported that Smith, who becomes South Carolina’s sixth offensive line transfer and 15th overall transfer, will have one season of eligibility remaining. Smith considered Northwestern and James Madison before committing to South Carolina.
Smith enrolled at Northern Arizona in 2021, taking his redshirt season that year. He played in six games with a start in 2022 and did not play in 2023 on a medical waiver. In 2024, as a redshirt sophomore, Smith started all 13 games to help the Lumberjacks rush for the sixth-most yards per game in the Big Sky conference and eclipse the 200-yard mark in four outings.
Smith also started all 12 games as a captain for Northern Arizona in 2025, a season that saw the Lumberjacks notch a 7-5 record.
South Carolina has added five other offensive linemen in the current transfer portal cycle: Jacarrius Peak (NC State), Dayne Arnett (Ferris State), Emmanuel Poku (East Carolina), Hank Purvis (Purdue) and Carter Miller (UCF).
The Gamecocks turned in a 4-8 record in 2025, with head coach Shane Beamer subsequently firing offensive coordinator Mike Shula.
