South Carolina announces captains for 2026 season

South Carolina will aim to bounce back from a difficult 2025 campaign, beginning with the season opener vs. visiting Kent State. As the Gamecocks turn the page, new captains have been announced.
South Carolina‘s team leaders this season are senior defensive back Gerald Kilgore, junior quarterback LaNorris Sellers, junior linebacker Fred Johnson, senior linebacker Shawn Murphy, senior defensive back Peyton Williams, and senior tight end Brady Hunt.

Kilgore has amassed 56 total tackles, 2 interceptions and a touchdown during his career. The dynamic Sellers has tallied 5,057 yards and 33 touchdowns through the air while also rushing for 995 yards and 13 scores. The 6-foot-3 Johnson has recorded 67 total tackles along with a sack and interception.
Murphy originally began at Alabama for two years followed by a season with Florida State before transferring to South Carolina last season. Williams has notched 72 total tackles, 2 interceptions, a sack and a forced fumble. Hunt, who has 69 receptions for 688 yards and 5 touchdowns, started his career at Ball State in 2022 prior to moving on to South Carolina in 2024.
South Carolina regressed to a 4-8 mark last season after going 9-4 in 2024. The Gamecocks’ opener vs. the Flashes is set for Sept 5. at 12:45 p.m. ET (SEC Network).
