South Carolina assistant has hilarious analogy for Gamecocks’ kickoff return against Texas A&M

South Carolina pulled off a first-ever victory over Texas A&M on Oct. 22 by way of a 30-24 score at WIlliams-Brice Stadium. The game started off in the best way possible for the Gamecocks as Xavier Legette took the opening kickoff 100 yards to give his team the lead just seconds into the contest.

The Gamecocks, for their part, have found themselves on a 4-game winning streak ever since an embarrassing home loss against Georgia. They do have a pair of tough games against Tennessee and Clemson to end the season, but with Missouri, Vanderbilt, and Florida coming up, it’s not out of the question to expect an 8-win season, at minimum.

First, though, are the Tigers. During Wednesday’s press conference, special teams coordinator Pete Lembo, no doubt thrilled with Legette’s performance, had a rather interesting analogy of the kickoff return.

“There’s nothing more awesome in football, and I don’t mean this with any disrespect to the opponent, but when you run a kickoff back along the opponent’s sideline, it doesn’t get much better than that,” Lembo said. “That’s like standing on the street corner…you’re a regular guy, and you’re standing on a street corner and a car goes by, and your girlfriend is sitting in the passenger seat of some other guy’s car.”

That’s one way to put it, apparently. Still, South Carolina fans will be hoping for more special teams exploits from Lembo’s unit.
