South Carolina beats out teams from SEC, B1G for 4-star DB

South Carolina is doing work on the recruiting trail.
Davion Jones is the newest Gamecock commitment. Like recent 5-star pledge Joshua Dobson, Jones is set to play his senior season at Cornelius (North Carolina) Hough High School.

Jones is listed as measuring 5-10 and 175 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Jones is rated 4-stars, the No. 6 player in North Carolina, No. 9 safety and No. 144 prospect overall in the Class of 2027.
In his recruitment, Jones collected 27 scholarship offers. Clemson, Florida State, Kentucky, Michigan, Mizzou, NC State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Tennessee and Texas A&M were among schools that showed interest.
For Thursday’s big decision, Jones narrowed things down to South Carolina, LSU, Georgia Auburn and Indiana after visiting those 5 schools in May and June. It’s another big victory on the trail for Shane Beamer and his staff.
With Jones on board, South Carolina now has 15 commitments. The class currently ranks No. 30 on the Composite.
