South Carolina RB David Williams unfamiliar with Spurrier’s Florida history

For many SEC football fans, it seems like just yesterday that Steve Spurrier was roaming The Swamp sidelines throwing his signature visor into the grass.
South Carolina RB David Williams, however, was born on June 17, 1994, meaning he was 7 years old when Spurrier coached his final game at Florida. The Gamecocks ball-carrier doesn’t associate the Head Ball Coach with orange and blue.

Spurrier is now an ambassador and consultant to the UF athletics department. Earlier this year, the school renamed Florida Field to Steve Spurrier-Florida Field to honor the former coach and player who won a Heisman Trophy (1966), coached a Heisman winner (Danny Wuerffel, 1996) and led the school to its first national championship in 1996.
Spurrier went 122-27-1 in 12 seasons at Florida (1990-2001). After a brief stint in the NFL, he coached at South Carolina from 2005-15, resigning in October of last year. The Gators and Gamecocks play each other Saturday in Gainesville, Fla. in a game that can be seen on CBS at noon.
