Staying home: Tennessee beats out Mizzou, Arkansas for in-state DB

Javonte Smith is staying home.

The Jackson, Tennessee product announced his commitment on Tuesday. In a live ceremony, Smith announced his plans to play for Tennessee.

A Jackson North Side High School product, Smith is currently listed as measuring 6-feet and 170 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Smith is rated 3-stars, the No. 37 player in the state of Tennessee, No 80 cornerback and No. 964 prospect overall in the Class of 2026.

Smith drew some interest from Power conference programs around the region. He picked up 10 scholarship offers during his recruitment and narrowed it down to Tennessee, West Virginia, Arkansas and Mizzou for Tuesday’s decision.

With Smith on board, Tennessee has 18 verbal pledges in its 2026 recruiting class, which ranks No. 15 nationally on the Composite.
