The Head Ball Coach got to see one of his former teams beat up on the other last Saturday. Steve Spurrier was in town for the Florida-South Carolina game on Nov. 6, witness to a 40-17 Gamecocks win.
Behind a former FCS transfer quarterback—South Carolina’s 3rd different starter of the year—the Gamecocks built a 40-10 lead heading into the 4th quarter and sent Florida to a 3rd straight loss. By margin of victory, it was the biggest win over the Gators in program history.
Spurrier, who coached the Gators from 1990-2001 and the Gamecocks from 2005-2015, had a succinct response to the game when talking about it on ESPN 98.1 in Gainesville on Tuesday.

In the aftermath of the game, Florida head coach Dan Mullen fired defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and offensive line coach John Hevesy. Asked on Monday about the moves, he said the game against South Carolina was the tipping point.
“We’re not better than we were earlier in the year,” Mullen said. “In fact, we’re worse than we were earlier in the year, and so we had to make some changes with what we’re doing, with where we’re at.”
The Gators (4-5, 2-5 SEC) will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host FCS opponent Samford at noon ET.
