Florida fans would love it if the Gators could return to the success rate of the 1990s. Now former coach Steve Spurrier is making a personal plea to students to fill the Swamp and support the program.
“I want to encourage all of you to get your tickets for Saturdays in the Swamp,” Spurrier said in a video shared by the Twitter account @GatorsStudents. “Game day, there’s nothing like it.”
The Head Ball Coach recalled that he had a 68-5 record at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Alumni who attended the school in the 1990s tell Spurrier that they were there when the Gators beat Florida State and Tennessee.
“We need you to help us create memories, memories of a lifetime, by coming to the Swamp every Saturday, every home game,” he said. “We’ve got a really good team ready to go.”
The Gators open with UT-Martin on Sept. 7 after an off week following their season opener against Miami on Aug. 24 in Orlando.
Hear from the HBC himself, @SteveSpurrierUF on what it means to experience @GatorsFB gamedays in The Swamp as a @UF student. There’s nothing else like it! So come make memories with us this fall.
