Tennessee adds another in-state RB to 2027 recruiting class

One week after keeping 5-star running back David Gabriel Georges from leaving the Volunteer State, Josh Heupel‘s Tennessee staff has landed another top in-state RB. Asa Barnes announced on Wednesday that he has verbally pledged to play for the Volunteers.
A Martin (Tennessee) Westview High School product, Barnes is listed as measuring 6-feet tall and 200 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, he’s rated the No. 22 player in the state of Tennessee, No. 36 running back nationally and No. 551 prospect overall in the Class of 2027. That rating makes him the second-ranked running back in the state of Tennessee, behind Gabriel Georges.
During his recruitment, Barnes has collected scholarship offers from 21 programs. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi State, Mizzou, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Texas are among the programs that showed interest.
For Wednesday’s decision, Barnes picked between Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida State and USC.

With Barnes on board, Tennessee now has 19 verbal pledges for 2027. The class currently ranks No. 20 on the Composite.
