Tennessee continues to reshape its roster for the 2026 campaign by turning to the transfer portal. It has been a busy weekend for the Volunteers with numerous commitments.
One addition to the secondary is a productive App State defensive back. DJ Burks told Hayes Fawcett of On3 that he committed to Tennessee on Saturday.
Burks heads to Tennessee after 4 seasons at App State. He has one season of remaining eligibility.
This past season, Burks posted the best numbers of his career. He recorded 73 total tackles, including 34 solo stops and 1 TFL. In coverage, Burks logged the first 7 passes defended of his career, including 2 interceptions. He also posted 2 forced fumbles.
In 2024, Burks had his breakout season. Making 11 appearances, Burks had 58 total tackles, with 29 solo stops and 3 TFLs.
Prior to 2024, Burks had 2 tackles in 2023 and did not record a defensive statistic in 2022. He redshirted his first year with the program, appearing in only 2 games.
Burks is a native of the Volunteer State. He was a 3-star prospect out of Maryville High School, choosing App State over Memphis, Coastal Carolina, Washington State and others.
