Tennessee saw George MacIntyre help lead the Volunteers to a 26-10 win over Alabama in Week 7.

With South Carolina next on the schedule, Josh Heupel appears set to stick with his sophomore quarterback. According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Vols “are expected” to start MacIntyre for a third straight game as they visit the Gamecocks in Week 8.

MacIntyre has started behind center in place of true freshman Faizon Brandon, who initially suffered a right shoulder injury against Texas. Despite Brandon’s recovery, Heupel will turn to MacIntyre for at least another week. MacIntyre was 21-of-31 for 197 yards against the Crimson Tide, throwing an interception and zero touchdowns.

It certainly wasn’t MacIntyre’s best performance of the season. But he led two touchdown drives in the second half to help the Vols extend their lead and put away the Tide. The defense, which gave up 201 yards of total offense, did the rest.

Tennessee will face a South Carolina team coming off an open week. The Gamecocks last played on Oct. 10, beating Florida 38-19 in Gainesville.

Saturday will mark the first meeting between the Volunteers and the Gamecocks since 2023. The Vols beat the Gamecocks 41-20 at Neyland Stadium that year.
