Tennessee picked up a huge win on Saturday, as the Volunteers knocked off Alabama, 26-10, in front of an electric home crowd. This was the third consecutive win for Tennessee over Alabama at Neyland Stadium, a feat the Volunteers hadn’t accomplished in over 20 years.

The story of the day for Tennessee was an incredible performance by a defense that made Keelon Russell have the worst game of his career. Russell finished with only 147 yards, while throwing two interceptions.

The Volunteers sacked him five times, and they finished with 10 TFLs.

While Russell wasn’t able to get things going passing, the Crimson Tide was equally as bad rushing the ball, as they finished with 54 yards on 26 carries. Jim Knowles was brought in the off-season to get the defense rolling in Knoxville, and that was on full display on Saturday night.

The offense isn’t putting up huge numbers, but running back DeSean Bishop continued his incredible season with another 159 yards and two touchdowns.

According to ESPN’s FPI, the Volunteers had only a 24% chance of making it to the College Football Playoff. After the win against the Crimson Tide, that is now up to 47%.

The Volunteers will be back in action in Week 8 when they hit the road to take on South Carolina.
